Strongholds are the only Minecraft structure that contains the End Portal — the gateway to the End dimension and the Ender Dragon fight. Each stronghold is a sprawling underground complex with libraries, storerooms, fountains, prison cells, and a portal room. Loot chests hold high-level enchanted books, ender pearls, diamonds, and gold. In Java Edition strongholds spawn in eight concentric rings around world spawn; in Bedrock they typically generate beneath villages. How to Find Stronghold In Minecraft

Strongholds generate deep underground and are traditionally located by throwing Eyes of Ender — each one floats toward the nearest stronghold but has a 20% chance to shatter on landing, so carry at least 12. Java Edition has 128 strongholds per world arranged in 8 rings; Bedrock generates strongholds beneath most villages without a hard limit.
