What Is an Abandoned Camp?

An abandoned camp is a small campsite that looks like someone left in a hurry. The tent is made of white wool stairs, with chests, barrels, straw beds, cushions and other utility blocks inside. The ground around it is dirt, gravel and path blocks, and an unlit campfire sits nearby with a chest or barrel.

Cobwebs and leaves sometimes replace parts of the tent, and some camps have a tree or a small crop farm next to them. The fences holding up the tent match the biome. A camp in a pale garden, for example, uses pale oak fences.

Biomes Where Camps Generate

Abandoned camps generate in eighteen Overworld biomes: bamboo jungle, birch forest, cherry grove, dappled forest, flower forest, forest, meadow, old growth birch forest, old growth pine taiga, old growth spruce taiga, pale garden, savanna, snowy taiga, sparse jungle, swamp, taiga, windswept forest and wooded badlands.

Each biome has ten tent variants, and each camp picks one of 49 campsites (45 shared and 4 specific to the biome). That makes 8,820 possible layouts.

Some camps also hide secret chests out of sight below the surface, and a few have a rare oxidized copper chest with better loot than the normal chests. Check under the floor and around the campsite before you leave.

How Abandoned Camps Generate

The world is split into 37×37-chunk regions, and each region gets one camp attempt at a random spot.
If that spot isn't in one of the eighteen valid biomes, no camp generates in that region.
Camps are at the same coordinates in Java and Bedrock, so one seed gives the same results on both editions.
