What Is a Bastion Remnant?

A bastion remnant is a large, castle-like ruin made of blackstone, found in the Nether. Piglins and piglin brutes guard it, and the bridge and hoglin stables variants also have hoglins. These mobs spawn once when the bastion generates and don't come back after you kill them.

Bastions are where you go for netherite. They hold the netherite upgrade smithing template you need to turn diamond gear into netherite, plus ancient debris, netherite scrap, gold and gilded blackstone, which only generates in bastions.

Treasure chests also roll stacks of spectral arrows, Nether quartz, gilded blackstone, iron and gold ingots, magma cream, crying obsidian, and blocks of iron and gold. Treasure rooms are the hardest variant but by far the most rewarding.

How to Loot a Bastion Safely

Wear at least one piece of golden armor. Normal piglins stay neutral, but piglin brutes still attack you on sight.
Opening or breaking a chest or barrel angers nearby piglins, even when you wear gold. Clear the area first.
Mining blocks of gold, gilded blackstone or gold ore also angers piglins.
Bring blocks to bridge over lava, especially in treasure rooms and bridge bastions.
Piglins, brutes and hoglins don't respawn once killed, so a cleared bastion stays safe.

Where Bastion Remnants Generate

In every Nether biome except basalt deltas. A bastion that would land in basalt deltas becomes a Nether fortress instead.
The Nether is split into regions of 432×432 blocks in Java and 480×480 blocks in Bedrock, each with one bastion or one fortress.
A bastion takes about 60% of regions in Java and about 67% in Bedrock, so bastions are more common than fortresses outside basalt deltas.
Unlike fortresses, bastions over the lava sea don't build pillars down to the ground. They float at an even level.

How to Find a Bastion Remnant

Get your world seed with /seed, or from the world settings screen.
Enter the seed and your Nether coordinates in the Bastion Finder above, and pick your edition and version.
Travel to the nearest result with golden armor on, fire resistance potions and plenty of blocks.
No seed? Explore crimson forests, warped forests, soul sand valleys and Nether wastes, and look for tall dark blackstone walls. If you keep finding Nether bricks, you're near a fortress instead.

Which bastion type has the netherite upgrade template?

All of them can. Every chest in a treasure room bastion holds a netherite upgrade smithing template, and the other bastion chests have a 10% chance each. If you need a template fast, the treasure room is the variant to look for.

Do piglins attack you in a bastion if you wear gold?

Normal piglins stay neutral while you wear at least one piece of golden armor. Piglin brutes ignore that and attack anyway. Opening or breaking a chest or barrel, or mining gold blocks and gilded blackstone, also angers nearby piglins whether you wear gold or not.

Can bastions spawn in basalt deltas?

No. Bastion remnants generate in every Nether biome except basalt deltas. If a bastion tries to generate there, a Nether fortress generates instead, which is why basalt deltas are a good place to look for fortresses. A bastion next to a delta can still stretch into it.

Do piglin brutes respawn in bastions?

No. Piglins, piglin brutes and hoglins that spawn with the bastion don't despawn and don't respawn after you kill them. Once you clear a bastion, only the normal mobs of the surrounding biome keep spawning there, so it's safe to come back for more loot.

Where is the Pigstep music disc?

Pigstep only comes from bastion remnant chests. It has a 5.6% chance to appear in the generic bastion chests, so it can take many chests to find. Searching several bastions with the Bastion Finder is faster than clearing just one.
