Spawn Point: Quick Answer
Every Minecraft world has a world spawn point picked from its seed. New players, and anyone who dies without a bed or respawn anchor, appear on a random safe block close to it: within a 21×21 area by default in Java Edition and 10×10 in Bedrock Edition. Enter your seed above to get the spawn coordinates. In game, a normal compass always points to the world spawn.
- Set by
- Your world seed (or /setworldspawn)

- 21×21 blocks in Java, 10×10 in Bedrock
- In game
- A normal compass points to it
- Your own spawn
- Change it with a bed or respawn anchor
What Is the World Spawn?
The world spawn is the point where every player first appears in a world. It's also where you respawn after dying if you haven't set your own spawn with a bed or respawn anchor, or if that bed or anchor is gone or blocked.
The spawn point itself is one fixed spot, but you don't always land on exactly that block. The game puts you on a random safe block in a small area around it, 21×21 blocks by default in Java Edition and 10×10 in Bedrock Edition. That's why two players joining the same world can appear a few blocks apart.
How Minecraft Picks the Spawn Point
When a world is created, the game searches for a spawn point using the seed's terrain and biomes. The search tries to avoid oceans, rivers and areas with extreme climate, but it can't rule them out completely, so now and then a seed spawns you somewhere awkward like a small island.
Because the spawn comes from the seed, the same seed and version always give the same spawn point. That's what lets a spawn finder calculate it before you ever load the world. Predictions from any seed tool can occasionally be a few blocks off, so treat the result as the spot to walk to and look around.
How to Find World Spawn in Game
- Hold a normal compass: it always points to the world spawn, unless it has been linked to a lodestone.
- With commands on, set the respawn radius to 0 and use /kill: you respawn exactly on the world spawn.
- Throw an item into the End exit portal: non-player entities land exactly on the world spawn in the Overworld, which marks the spot.
- Use this finder: enter your seed, edition and version to get the coordinates without loading the world.
World Spawn vs Your Own Spawn
| World spawn | Your own spawn | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Everyone in the world | Just you |
| How it's set | By the seed, or /setworldspawn | Bed, respawn anchor or /spawnpoint |
| When you use it | First join, and when your own spawn is missing or blocked | Every respawn while it's valid |
If your bed is broken or blocked when you die, you go back to the world spawn, so it's worth knowing where it is even after you've set up a base.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find the world spawn in Minecraft?
The quickest way in game is a normal compass, which always points to the world spawn. Outside the game, enter your seed, edition and version in the Spawn Point Finder above to get the coordinates. You can also respawn on it exactly by setting the respawn radius to 0 and using /kill when commands are on.
Why do I spawn in a different spot each time?
You don't spawn on the exact world spawn block. The game picks a random safe block in a small area around it: 21×21 blocks by default in Java Edition and 10×10 in Bedrock Edition. That's why respawning or new players can land a few blocks away from each other.
How do I set the world spawn in Minecraft?
With commands enabled, /setworldspawn moves the world spawn to where you're standing or to coordinates you give it. This changes where new players appear and where compasses point. To change only your own respawn point, sleep in a bed, set a respawn anchor in the Nether, or use /spawnpoint.
How do I teleport to the world spawn?
Get the spawn coordinates from the Spawn Point Finder above, then run /tp @s X Y Z with commands enabled, using those numbers. Without commands, follow a normal compass, which points to the world spawn, or die without a bed or respawn anchor set and you'll respawn next to it.
Where do I respawn if my bed is destroyed?
If your bed or respawn anchor is missing or blocked when you die, you respawn back at the world spawn area. That's why players often build a small shelter or path near the world spawn, even when their main base is far away.
Can the world spawn be in an ocean?
Rarely. The spawn search tries to avoid oceans and rivers, but it can't completely prevent it, so some seeds start you on a small island or near water. Checking a seed's spawn with the finder before you start a world lets you skip awkward starts.
